My black R50 cooper..which modifications?

Hey,

After months of having to spend cash on items non-car related and i cant wait to sort to modify my pride and joy.. my black 2003 Mini Cooper

Decided to definately get a set of 17inch ZCW angel alloys in black when wages come through( not till next month's payday after some issues there) so what to spend this month, i will have roughly about £500 to spend and the choice is endless! The car so far only has an engine remap by Angel Tuning and 8000k HID headlights.. Heres a few of my ideas.

what to choose?

1. Milltek exhaust (cat back)
2. sub and amp package ( if fits)
3. lower it ( either springs or coilovers)
4. all round window tinting
5. Strut braces ( would love omp upper but worried about fitting under bonnet heard horror stories)
6. induction kit of some sort ( perhaps pipercross viper)
7. any other ideas greatly appreicated.

Any advice would be amazing, this is my total pride and joy, waxed and washed 3 times a week and always used. however due to me being only 18years old, finances are tight! Thank you in advance.

i have the miltek cat back on my ONE i love it!

sub and amp will fit... just! i have a sub amp and disc changer in my boot there isn't space for anything else! however a lot of people go for custom boot builds which gives you more space.

if you are going to lower it i would suggest coilovers rather than springs (from my research as this is what i have been looking to do next)

suggestions, what about some custom graphics?
Aero grilles?
spot lights?

Cheers for your help PrincessRiot good ideas there just a few questions if you don't mind...

The milltek cat-back..i have heard some people say they are really quiet is this correct? how are they idling? and do you get the "popping" sound from them when on the overrun or revving?

i did try to fit a straight 2x12 inch enclosure with an epic fail at my local ICE shop.having had that in my last car ( a clio) i may lok out for a small 10inch sub of some sort. Yes i cant wait too get it lowered..may wait till after alloys though for that

Thanks in advance

I would suggest, instead of mods, saving up enough money for a down payment on a new MINI. The 2003 model year is quite dated, and has alot of problems, especially the CVT transmission and power steering.

Silverbird..... The kid obviously LOVES his car...
So I think selling it is not one of his plans.

Dewey... I have just aquired a Coop S.
The order of my mods are - Rims, Tint, Sound, Exhaust, Suspension, CAI etc.
So - I am going for looks and sound before any performance mods.

Have fun and enjoy your car.

Sorry I completely disagree with your quote being the 2003 model is quite dated. Yes they may have had their problems, but which MINI hasn't?
The shape IMO is still very fresh.

If finances are tight, you might want to find out the impact each mod has on your insurance and do them in that order - I'm impressed at 18 you've managed to convince your insurance company to allow you to modify it at all so well played

FWIW, you might want to double check the tinting you can have on the front windows as the law changed a few years back ( eBay.co.uk Guides - WINDOW TINTING AND THE LAW-a quick guide) and the police round here at least are fairly hot on it and will remove it and fine you on the spot.

Also wouldn't personally bother with the strut brace - looks nice when you open the bonnet and that's about it

Chris

I don't understand how an 18year old can insure a mini without getting a mortgage. I envy you boy.
