Pure Silver Mini Cooper D 59 plate - Fuel Consumption

Hi guys

I was wondering what mpg others are getting in their Cooper D? Mine is a 59 plate. It's reaching 12,000 miles now and i'm still only averaging 52mpg. I drive it so economically, always gentle with acceleration, braking etc. I always change gear when it tells me to, never go above 2000rpm, always in the highest gear possible. I use the stop/start when the weather is above 4 degrees! My journeys tend to be no more than half an hour each way which of course will drop the mpg, but to say it should reach 70mpg combined, i'm still way off !! Over the year it hasn't nudged from 51-52pmg the whole time.

There's numerous postings on Dooper MPG's but you'll be pushed to achieve the stated numbers. Wheels, tyres, pressure, driving style, use of air con, stereo, weather - all affect economy.

The stated MPG are really only a comparison across different makes and models.

I get around 55 in mine, but with heavy S Spokes I rarely get more.

52 sounds about right to me. I had an 08 D Clubman and drove it like a saint for 3 yrs. Averaged 51 mpg. Now got the BMW diesel engined model and after 4 months still at 47 mpg. Town driving really hits the mpg.

Yep 51/52 seems about right. I had a 2008 Cooper D for 2 years 25K miles and averaged around 52mpg with light driving on my daily commute into London. My new BMW engined Cooper D at first seemed to be more economical but current average mpg is around 50mpg. Driving in town really drops the mpg - on a long run using cruise and keeping to a steady speed I have managed to average 62mpg over a tankful but you cannot do that as soon as you drive in town.
