Offline | Rear wiper - intermittent? After mentioning in another thread that the rear wiper doesn't have an intermittent wipe setting, I was told by another poster that it does. Can anyone please clarify. The positions are only on/off/wash so do I assume that the rear wiper is always intermittent when it's 'on', or does it follow the front wiper settings? Just like to clarify before I mention it to the dealer. Thanks. I felt it was weird having a rear wiper with no intermittent function - which is the most useful IMO. Offline | Re: Rear wiper - intermittent? My experience is that it is always intermittent independent of the front wipers settings --- but only after, as Dom says, it's initial 3 wipes. Turn it on, leave it alone, and have a look through the mirror! ![]() + 2002 MINI Cooper S - Dark Silver / White roof, Sport, Premium, Lapis blue leather + 1965 Mini Traveller - Tartan Red / White roof, 1275, Cooper S discs, fully restored/renewed |

Offline | Re: Rear wiper - intermittent? I thought the positions were wash, off, on/intermittent, wash. Something that would be very clever of them to do is to have the rear wiper give one or 2 sweeps when you put the car into reverse while the front wipers were on. That way your vision out the rear glass would be improved when you're backing out of a parking space some dark & stormy night. Chip H. ex-MINI Cooper S owner and all around good-guy |

Offline | Re: Re: Rear wiper - intermittent? Hey!!! MINIs are supposed to do just that. I mean that feature was clearly promoted when the first US specifications were announced. And I seem to remember Paul Mullett commenting on how a MINI he drove did this, but I can't say I remember it happening on my car. So did BMW/MINI silently drop this feature? + 2002 MINI Cooper S - Dark Silver / White roof, Sport, Premium, Lapis blue leather + 1965 Mini Traveller - Tartan Red / White roof, 1275, Cooper S discs, fully restored/renewed |

Offline | I just checked my car, too. No joy. Very disappointing. ![]() It can't be rocket science to have it programmed, can it? + 2002 MINI Cooper S - Dark Silver / White roof, Sport, Premium, Lapis blue leather + 1965 Mini Traveller - Tartan Red / White roof, 1275, Cooper S discs, fully restored/renewed |

Offline | OK, OK, it's the first 'three wipes' that threw me! Tried it this morning (in the rain of course). I'd never left it on longer than those first three wipes. How embarrassing! But not as embarrassing as complaining to the dealer - "they're supposed to do that sir". Thanks for that. Offline | the rear wipers do a number of swipes - i would have guessed >3 - and then go into intermittant mode. if you twist the rear wiper switch anti clockwise breifly it will do the wiping without the washing. I find that the rear window is always dirty if there is the least bit of moisture on the road and i guess this is part of a boxy body shape. At speed the underside of the spoiler gets very grubby which presumably means that's where the airflow goes |

Offline | I'll second that. Have tried to count it a couple of times but always lost count or missed one due to concentrating on the next bend. I did wonder whether it was related to speed/setting of the front wipers, but I hadn't thought about driving speed. Guess I'll have to be a passenger to figure it out....I'll let you know in a year or two when I actually let someone else have th joy of driving. Mini: Drive and feel alive. |

Offline | It was raining this morning so I gave it a try. When fronts are intermittent rear swipes on the 3rd front sweep. When frots are on the next setting up (always on) the rear sweeps every other front sweep. Or something like that anyways..... |

Offline | The rears are related to the fronts, but the fronts (when in intermittent) are related to road speed. So the rears are as well! Just wish that my fronts swapped from continuous to intermittent when I stop. If I get the dealer to change this, do I loose the speed-sensitive intermittent setting? Mini Cooper. Offline | Are the fronts always related to road speed in intermittent mode? I thought that this is a memory option. Is there a memory option so that when you stop the wipers swich off/swich to intermittent? Mark |

Offline | I believe this to be an option - they drop from normal to intermittent when you stop. But I don't want this if I loose the speed-sensitive bit! I find this to be so subtle & well done that you don't notice it! Just that the wipers always appear to be going at the correct speed - far better than the rain-sensor arrangement on various Peugeots I have driven.... Mini Cooper. Offline | How does the speed sensitive bit work, then? Do you set it to intermittent and it adjusts the speed according to your road speed? I thought there was a rain sensor on the window? I will have to go back and look at the manual again ![]() MArk |
