mini roof respray options

I am soon to take delivery of a nearly new mini one in interstate yellow. I would prefer it to have a black roof.

I phoned around thrfee body shops who all quoted around £200.

When I phoned a couple of mini dealers they quoted around £400.

When I asked why the difference, the mini dealers said that for £200 the bodyshop would simply spray the roof without removing the window rubbers, in time rainwater gathering at the edge of the rubber would cause the paint to peel. They explained they would remove the window rubbers, spray then refit.

Are the mini dealers correct and would a £200 bodyshop respray without removing the rubbers cause problems over time?

Its completely upto you, the mini dealers would do all the work for you, but i dont see why you couldnt just remove the rubber yourself or get a window specialist out for £75 quid.

Alternatively, your gonna save 200 bucks by going with the bodyshop, so if worst comes to worse youll have the other 200 bucks to get it sprayed again! thus making the roof look brand new again!

I would have thought youll get at least 3/4 years out of the roof before it decides to peel.

Hope this helps!

Excellent idea dude!!

Vinyl wrapping would be a lot better than paint! and last longer, and probably be cheaper.

I was quoted £900 for a full car a few months ago, so a small mini roof would probably be about £200.

Vinyl wrapping certainly won't "last longer", after all painting is permanent, whereby a wrap will allow you the option to revert back at any point (or re-wrap in another colour).

I meant in terms of fading, vinyl wont fade in the sun where paint will.

I would first ask the body shop if they would remove the rubber, if not I would go with a vinyl if it cost less than 200, i wouldnt pay the same for painting it as vinyl as that just seems silly.
