What should this cable do?

Whilst taking off my intercooler cover ( to paint it ), i noticed this cable coiled up in the corner of the engine bay. Can anyone help with identifying what it is and what it should do?

R53 Cooper S - 2002.

Many thanks,

Hi ya
Yes there are two one runs down the right hand side over the top of the strut down the front of strut tower then forward to the catch which has a electrical conector on it
The other runs behind brake servo across front bulk head behind the plastic trim to the left hand side round pasts abs brake unit across the top of the strut down the front of the strut tower to the catch With the bonnet release yellow lever is these should both have cables
Hope this helps you out :-)

Just checked and both the left and right side brackets each have a cable running to them. Really puzzled on this - everything in the car seems to be working OK.

Hummm
Well I am stumped I would imagine a smarty here at mini2 will go o that's a bla bla :-)
Only thing I can surgest is try to trace it back in to the car and see if it connected to anything and work from there
The only thing is may be it was a mod of some sort
Sorry :-(

Would've helped if it was standard fitment??? Looks like it goes through the bulkhead, so yeah my first thought would have been that.

Not much is cable operated, and this is definitely a cable to operate *something*. Clutch is hydraulic. Throttle is electronic. Cruise control is electronic.

You might be able to trace it inside the cabin, but that looks tricky to get to??

It's probably nothing. A previous owner might have replaced the bonnet release cable and not fully removed the old one.

Thanks again. Going to try and trace the cable this morning. Will let you know.
