Nightmare car!! Engine cutting out - any ideas??

On my second mini, previous was a mini one 55 plate. Had nothing but problems with it, including the steering pump going twice which cost nearly 800 pound a pop. I purchased a 57 plate mini cooper about 5 months ago and in the past week I have had a warning light for break pads, a light warning me that my engine was overheating while driving, filled up the water and less than a week later needed to fill up water again?? Also been having problems these past few days when I first start the engine it starts up fine but withing 2 seconds cuts out, it does this repeatedly and needs big revs to keep it going. Once it starts up properly it goes fine, i can shut it down for an hour or so and start it up again fine but if i was to leave it overnight or for more than a few hours the same problem would occur?? Got it booked into garage to sort its many problems on Wednesday but just wondering if anyone has any ideas about the engine cutting out and MORE IMPORTANTLY how much will it cost me???
