DIY 1st Gen Exhaust issue

My '04 R50 with 86K now has a loosetailpipe and is beginning to make an odd noise that I am not sure is exhaust related.

It makes atapping sound that only comes under load (excellerating or decellerating, but not with the clutch in). At first I thought it was the exhaust, but I am beginning to wonder.

No performance drop noted by the way.

Anyone have any ideas what is going on? I know I need to do something about the exhaust (hopefully just a hanger issue).

Also, what is a good replacement Exhaust system (cheep) and how hard is it to replace my self (without a lift)?

Thanks...Bill

first thing to do is give the exhaust a good look over and wiggle it about, it should help eliminate the exhaust if its found to be in a solid state when wiggling.

The rear exhaust brackets/straps are prone to rust corrosion and worth checking for security as it can damage the complete exhaust system if they let go suddenly........the rear silencer box is quite heavy if it drops.
