Help!!

Just got a craven speed short shifter for my 2004 mcs and attempted to put it in today. Got as far as opening the shift box under the car and then the shifter cable would not come off of the bottom of the shifter. Didn't wanna break anything so stopped for now please help!

Thought of that already amd This is all it says...
7. Remove ball and socket joint for stock shifter.

Doesn't really help much.
