Question Mini 2 Auto

Before I purchase a Mini Cooper Auto does anybody know how long the auto clutch will last on a mini? Just been bitten hard by my auto clutch packing up on my Aygo after just 5 years and have spotted a mini cooper auto which is 6 years old but only has 40,000 miles on the clock in my price range.
Is the automatic a safe investment?

Generation 1 (R50 and R53) used a CVT auto that can be troublesome, see the CVT and auto forum. The second generation (R56) uses a Japanese Aisin conventional auto which so far has been very reliable. A six year old car could belong to either generation so ask if it is a CVT or conventional auto.

Some people are like a Slinky ........ not really good for anything, but you still can't help
but smile when you shove them down the stairs

Have you ever owned a manual? If so I would highly recommend getting a manual Mini. After driving a manual for 6 years I seriously considered getting a Mini with an auto due to frustrations of driving in traffic. I'm so glad I got a manual. It's an extremely easy transmission to drive and tons of fun. Think about it.
