Help with MPG problem..... Hi i have just bought an 04 plate Mini one 1.6 with 74000 on the clock... It has full BMW dealer history with it and is a cracking little motor for my wife... The problem we are having is... we filled it up with petrol approx £50 and it has only lasted a week... she got 284 miles from a full tank!!!! Do this sound correct??? She dont drive like a racing driver but think it is a little high!!!! this is mainly around town..Is there any thing i can check??? Thanks in advance....

Sounds about right. I usually get between 280-320miles out of a full tank on my 02 Cooper, depending on motorway/town driving. I don't drive crazy, but about once or twice a week take it to the redline to blow the cobwebs away

If a lot of that is town driving then very good. If she was to have put £25 in them the miles would equate to 142. I always top up with £20 and it generally returns around 115 miles with a little spirited driving from time to time. While longer runs mine becomes much more economical. What you will notice that mpg will go down in cold weather while in warmer weather the opposite will be noticed.... So everything seems fine..

Yep that sounds about right. Here in Malta temps range from 10 to 4 Degrees Celsius and when i fill the tank to the very limit, i get about 230 miles. It's a bit low because i have a cooper S and i love the supercharger whine so i love driving on high revs but yeah, 284 miles sounds pretty good

Thanks for the replies..... It the first mini we have had and it was my wife that was wanting it...... It just don't seem very much miles from £50... That was to fill it up..... But she likes it so will have to get used to the fuel consumption .

Just done a very quick, very rough calc. £50 / 1.30 (approx petrol cost per litre). Then litres devided by about 4.6 ish for litres per gallon then mileage 280 \ 8.5 (approx amount of gallons) gives you 33mpg ish... So not too bad for that engine around town with no motorway.

Hi, Currently sitting a 33.09 mpg on my 03 Cooper. Mixture of town and country driving. Best ever has been 36.53 mpg and the worst was 30.98 mpg. Always run it until the red light comes on then fill it to full. Regards

The price fuel is near me that actually equates to 35 mpg ![]() £50 sounds cheap to fill the tank as I thought it was a 50 litre tank ??? Unless it allready had some in of course.
