iPhone connection problem.

Hi, just got a new Cooper S last Saturday and it's brilliant obviously. Only problem I'm having is with my iPhone. I got a BMW/MINI Y cable to connect it from amazon and it works to begin with, I press mode then choose the iPod function. But the majority of the time it's cuts off after about 15 seconds and returns to the radio. Then I have to press mode again and the iPod option is gone and it says 'aux' and 'usb' I have to choose aux and it works but the track names don't appear and I can't use the steering wheel controls. Anyone know what the problem is? Do I need to buy a cable directly from BMW? When I bought it it said it was compatible so I don't think it's that.

It could be that the cable isn't compatible as it says. But it's also possible that the cable in question could be bad. Best way to check would be to have a Y cable from BMW/MINI and see if that makes a difference. If not it could potentially be an issue with the USB/AUX block in the console or the radio itself. Also try wiggling the connections while it's plugged up to see if moving it around a bit can create a proper connection.

I purchased my cable from Ebay for $14 and it works perfect. The dealer wanted $80 for the cable.
