Thinking of entering into the mini world most likely via a 52 Cooper S what are the main things to check for, and what should i look for in the service history, guessing it's going to have 80k upwards on the clock.
Have had a scour round the site for links and read the AROnline which was pretty good but anymore info gladly welcomed
one of the best things you can do is go for a test drive, take it through the gears listen for anything untoward. be careful with the first gen S's they have been known to have some problems! at 80k miles should be ok though! be sure to check if any timing belt changes etc as if not your probably going to have to payout for that sooner rather than later! hpi check might be a good idea aswel!
hope this helps!
Be sure to check power steering pump and crank pulley , there are other things to check but those are 2 big ones . The belt tensioner comes to mind also.
2004 MCS JCW, 15% pulley, Dinan CAI, MSD ignition & wires, Mynes V2 header, TSW rear control arms, H-sport front and rear sway bars, H-sport lowering springs, Powerflex bushings all around, modified Forge intercooler, M7 STB , ATI Damper
Be very careful when following advice about carry out timing belt and timing belt tensioner changes, as your engine won't have either. Attempting to change items that aren't fitted to an engine may cause injury, death or (in the worst cases) having the pi** taken out of you by the service receptionist.
You have been warned.
