Stop Start

Hi

Just got my first mini 2009 r57 Cooper

Just love it, one thing though when i try to pull off after a stop start it struggles

It needs much more gas other wise the engine starts to stall

Thanks

Steve

Its the same way on all coopers besieds the S models you just got to roll out at a higher rpm. It was hard for me to get used to as well.

Hi
I think i'v worked it out
Presumably the Stop Start is calibrated for Regular Unleaded Petrol
Seems as though the premium high octane is a bit rich and floods it a bit

No, I think you're just being a bit quick in letting out the clutch - it needs about half to one second for the idle speed to stabilise after the engine has fired on a Cooper. Alternatively for a quicker start, use a bit more throttle with a bit more clutch slipping.

It is very apparent in my new SD that this engine doesn't need the mini-wait - the clutch can be let up as soon as the engine is turning and the low-revs diesel torque just pulls the car away.

I just turn the confounded thing off, it cant be good for the starter and battery in the long run. The amount you save on fuel you spend having a new starter and battery fitted a couple of years down the line, plus the cars dont make the fumes like they used to these days so thats not really an excuse for it either.
