Need advice Mini One or First

Hi

Yesterday I passed my test and I plan to go buy a car on Saturday. I really need some advice.

I know that I want a Mini. I have about £10K to spend incl the first years insurance. The car will mainly be used just to drive locally, supermarket etc. I know nothing about cars so I want to buy from a dealer with some sort of waranty. I also need this car to last 3-5 years.

Looking online I have seen the following

1. 2010, 1.6 Mini First, 17000 miles for £9500. (insurance would be £470)

2. 2009, Mini One Graphite, 19000 miles for £9990 (insurance would be £478)

3. 2009, Mini cooper D, 30500 miles for £10400 (insurance would be £662)

The car I learnt to drive in was a 1.2 Corsa diesel.

What would you buy?

Thanks

Alex

Diesel is not ideal for a car that mainly does short trips around town.

Choose the Mini One or First based on condition and depending on what spec or colour you prefer, also check they have things like air con as standard if you you require it.

I would take the MINI One

I had one as my 1st car then i brought JCW

The MINI One has enough go and the HANDLING is amazing

You have to work the gearbox for FUN on a ONE which adds to the enjoyment

I still miss my ONE even after getting my JCW

I brought mine brand new off the showroom floor it was 2007 and drove it for 3 years and no problems

Only sold it bcs i needed the Monies

Haggle on the price mate and try get some free stuff as well

ps I am not a fan of Diesels

The MINI First can be a bit basic if no options were fitted, plastic wheels etc, the ONE might be a better choice.

Thanks guys for the replies, please keep posting.

New question.

If a dealer says they want £10K for a second hand car, where do you start with regards to price?

Do you offer 10% less than that? or 5% less? or 1% less?

Put it another way if a car was £10k what would your opening price be and what would you expect to pay?

Thanks again

Start lower than you want to pay for it and aim to meet somewhere in the middle with some negotiation on both sides usually works.

Hi

Just been to a dealer and seen a Chilli Red Mini one 1.6, 10,400 miles Reg date March 2010.

They want £10795 but will take £10500.

I have gone home to think about it, I really like the car but they were very much thats the price take it or leave it.

They are going to include a years servicing, plus add a years warranty.

Its more than I wanted to spend but do able.

Any thoughts, is this the correct sort of price or am I being had?

Go in and wave the notes in front of them, you will probably get it for 10?

Hi

Picked up my Mini on Tuesday.

I drove home from the garage with my other half holding on to the seat and given non-stop directions/orders.

Since then I have driven on my own a couple of times a day. All short journeys but I am loving it.
