Mini - rust?

Hi, Im a new member here and a future Mini (Cooper S) owner...

I was wondering does the Mini Body rust?

Ive been looking around(car parks etc) and I have not seen any rust even on the 'older'(2001/2) models.

Like many modern cars, rust is rarely an issue even on the early MINI's.......unlike the classic Mini where it is/was a constant battle to keep at bay!

On some early MINI's the only rust that sometimes seems to appear is hidden under the rubber door seal along the bottom edge of the door opening/sill flange. If you gently pull off the rubber seal and it is wet and rusty underneath, clean it up and apply some rust treatment and re-paint with a touch up brush. This is rarely a serious problem but if found best to treat it before it gets too bad, some early MINI's were rectified for this under warranty and the factory paint process in this area improved for future models.

Mine did! It is a clubman and the paint was bubbling on both rear doors! The dealership that completed the work under warranty informed me that it was due to the factory spraying the topcoat over the undercoat before it had dried.

I thought most steel panels were zinc coated these days? and that was the reason?
The only rust Ive seen is on badly repaired bodywork, original panel works tends to be really good these days.
Surprised at the factory not getting it right though, but I did see a bare steel bodyshell outside the works last week on a trolley, in the rain, must have been a Clubman.

So yeah no worries with rust on the modern mini.
