United-Kingdom UK R50 One - what battery have you fitted

Has anyone recently replaced their battery with a non-OEM model which fitted straight in without modification?

I'm not certain that the online tools are accurate - Halfords suggests that a Cooper should have a smaller battery than a One, for example.

From measuring under the bonnet, it looks like a Bosch size 027 *should* fit, but given everything I've read, I'm dubious.

If anyone can vouch for a model which they personally know fits, I'd be grateful.

Yes the Halfords listing is wrong, if I remember correctly the larger more powerful battery quoted for the MINI One is right for both the Cooper and One, the smaller battery is not tall enough to clamp up tightly in the battery box which as you would expect is the same on One and Cooper. Always best to fit the more powerful battery if you have a choice and it physically fits. If you still have any doubts measure the height of your old battery and compare with the replacement, which is what I did.

Thank you.

From measuring it looks like the Bosch S5 027 size should fit. I'll order it elsewhere though, as it can be had for close to half of the Halfords price if you look carefully.

Agreed.
I only use Halfords because I have their trade discount card which brings things like batteries down to a more reasonable price.

Exide Premium fitted, checked with supplier against Bosch, told both same size (height) , so cut a piece of ply for it to sit on - perfect

Thank you both.

Having fitted it, I can confirm for anyone searching in the future, that the Bosch Series 5 in size 027 definitely fits a British 53-reg R50 Mini One without any modification / bolstering.
