Remote Car Starter

I have searched the forums and cannot find any info on remote car starters. I'm thinking about having one installed on my 2005 Automatic Mini Cooper, but have heard from a couple of people that it could mess up the electrical system.

Also, my car came with only one key. I should have a back up in case something happens to that one, so is a dealership the only place you can get a new key?

My apologies if this has already been discussed and I'm not searching properly.

Thanks!

You mean an auto start system like the ones Clifford do?

Ie you can start the engine by a key fob?

Only Clifford do them as far as I'm aware. They are seriously cool though!

Garage
I've seen an after market one for another car but it works by having a key in the car (secured somewhere) as this is needed for the car to start (no transponder chip = no start).

But I think you still needed another key to be able to open the car etc, however it provided you with a fob for the remote start.

The Clifford option I seem to remember still required the regular key to be put in to release the steering lock etc. a mate had one on his corsa and it was very cool but a pain to have to have a big fob and a key as well
