Bicycle Rack Advice

Hi there!

I'm new to Mini2.com and hoping someone can help me... I've just purchased a 2012 Mini Cooper S Hatchback. I would very much appreciate any recommendations as to which rear-mounted bicycle rack I should buy.

I'm not wanting to break the bank by spending £500+ on this accessory buy purchasing directly from Mini.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I look forward to hearing from you.

Steve.

Do a search - I think there was something a while back in 2nd Gen Exterior that covered it.

Whatever you go for make sure that none of the rear lights or number plate are obscured when the rack is in use, or you'll get pulled.
Its amazing how many numpties don't seem to even consider this....

Really? I know that is the scare story that sells high-mount racks, but I don't think it's a real risk. I've certainly done thousands of miles with a low-mount bike rack and never been pulled. In reality rear lights are perfectly visible through bike wheels (though not if you have a disc wheel time trial bike, I guess).

Of course an obscured plate would be a good excuse for the police to pull you if they think you've had a drink, but otherwise would they ever bother?

If you think about it, why stick a bike on the back of any vehicle especially this time of year? a couple of miles down the road and it will be black and caked up with salt and muck, then you have to man handle it off, its filthy, sit on it and hold the handlebars also filthy.
I think your right when you say you can see the lights maybe through the wheels of one bike maybe if they are in the right place but Ive followed cars with up to 4 bikes one on top of the other on the rear, all different sizes and you cant tell what make the car is let alone see any lights properly.
Plus the rear of the car gets scratched paintwork into the bargain.
Its a case of youve got a car but really need a van/minibus so you can stick them inside, either that or get folding bikes that will go in the boot then hang the misses handbags on the back
