England Dim Xenon Headlights / Supercharger Question

Hi All,

I've got a 2002 Cooper S with the factory fit Xenons. They weren't great when I bought the car and they've got worse and worse. I've replaced the bulbs and they are exactly the same, dim

I've been reading about Ballasts\Ignitors? on here and I'm wondering what the chances are of both getting tired at apparently the same time? The lights do seem really bright when you look at them but they just don't make any splash on the road at all. I'm thinking they may be adjusted too high but they seem to be self levelling. I haven't investigated this bit yet. If its just adjustment can anyone tell me how its done please?

Also, I've recently read that the Superchargers start to give up after 80k miles, is that true If so, what options are there for after market perfomance kit?

Cheers
Paul

Xenon or HID headlights do not have builds as such so I do not understand how they have been changed! HID headlights are filled with xenon gas which lights up when a high voltage charge is set up. They do not have filaments and if replacement is necessary the entire headlight unit needs to be replaced.

Are you sure about that?

you just change the lamp &/or ignitor depending on type of hid lamp whether it be D1R,D2R,D2S etc etc..absolutely no need to change the headlamp..

Have you checked the self-leveller? It's a small black box that's attached to the near side rear lower suspension arm. On my 2002 MCS I found that the little arm coming out of the box had broken off and therefore the lights were pointing to the sky, not the ground. Might be worth a check before you start replacing lights etc...
