I noticed Paul the originator of Mini2 and member number 1 of the site posted recently and sadly noticed I have been a member for over 10 years!
Who is still knocking around from the early days? I have seen Tigger and Sebby still seem to be, but who else?
I am far from a prolific poster but still own an 2005 JCW S with a massive 22k on it, just worked out, that's 3000 miles a year. It still looks good as new, always garaged. It's not my everyday drive obviously but still puts a massive smile on my face. Big spec came from JCG when it was still around, I have no intention of getting rid of it, will it be future classic???????
Hi Blusox, yeah recognise your name, there was a bit of a revolt in about 2008 if I remember rightly, all got a bit silly and I haven't really been here much since about then either. But I am back since rekindling my Mini experience.
I clocked 285 miles in the last 12 months in my Mini, as I needed something a little bit less juicy on petrol for commuting, so I didn't drive my Mini for ages. It's odd though coz as they say "absence makes the heart grow fonder" so getting back in the Mini was like starting all over again, like having a new car. Hence why I am back on here
Your 2005 JCW S will definitely be a future classic as I'm sure will any mint R53's that manage to survive through the usual low depreciation/neglect era of most cars before finally achieving sought after classic status. Wish I had tucked away a few classic Mini Cooper S Mk1 while they were still cheap and plentiful in the late 1970's!
Yeah I hope so been driving a Fiat 500 1.2 for the last year, great little car for commuting, technology for Bluetooth and handsfree etc... Performance but you can only go as fast as the traffic in London. Will do 44 mpg on townie consumption compared to the 26 I was getting frow the JCW.
But can you imagine the grin factor when I got back in the Works. I literally drove it for an MOT in the last twelve months, and I thought Jesus this is quick afterwards. It was like I was a born again Mini fanatic!
Drove it to Bristol from London over Christmas at about 70 miles an hour average and returned 38 mpg which is not far off what the Fiat did last year. The main difference being the pick up from a Works in 6 gear, no need to change down it will just pull. As would any upgraded Mini. Always felt a standard R53 was slightly over geared and needed to be changed down too much to get the best out of it.
The only down side of course is the technology has moved forward on the ICE side, doing some testing for Mikey at the moment on this with a bit of kit that will let you use Siri from the MFSW phone buttons but it is a bit flakey at the moment.
Never really got into total mini. Think it was because of the whole Max episode, that had occurred, all got a bit extreme!
I'm a returning member, first registered back in 2006 haven't had a mini since early 2008 hopefully picking up a nice spec 08 dooper clubman next weekend for my new daily drive can't wait!
I still call in from time to time, even 2 1/2 years after the OP here!
My own car taste has gone to the opposite extreme now, with a Land Rover Discovery 4 arriving in another month! If anyone remembers how I used to pack our old R50 and R53 to the gunnels and beyond at the shows, you can probably imagine how much I need a Disco!
Joined December 2002 and never been away. Had an Electric Blue Cooper S for 7 years 1 month and now have owned a Spice Orange Cooper S for 4 years 6 months. Touch wood I have had one fault in all that time that was taken care of under w/tee. Never got near the official fuel consumptions figures but apart from that the two cars have been cheap to run. Smiles to £ ratio huge
I joined 2006, have not had a mini for some time but still drop in here. Definitely would like another mini , current have 3.0D X3 and have a 3 series company car that goes back soon. Would like a nice JCW at some point. Tempted to get a convertible but doubt I would get roof down much given weather we get in Scotland.
