Offline | That's a bit much, but I should expect it from the land of the law suit though, I suppose... ![]() I was wondering what caused the accident and whether it's something that we all should be aware of - ie a potential handling problem in extreme situations. It sounds like the driver simply wasn't used to the super-responsive steering and/or the tendency of the car to skitter about when accelerating hard on poor roads. Car's don't just flip over on their roofs for no good reason - and if they do, we need to know. I seem to be reading an awful lot of accident reports involving the S - I'm starting to wonder if it's not a wolf in sheeps clothing, and is catching people out if they are too complacent with it. I certainly have a lot more respect for my S after reading this and the 'truck tyre in the window' report. Sounds like the car is built like a tank ! |

Offline | How awful! I'm glad to hear that you and your wife are doing well. You'll get another car good news that the MINI was there and doing it's job when you needed it. I had a highway overturning accident a few years back and I also kept thinking it the car was going to go up in flames. That and that I would be blinded by flying glass. Again than God you're both okay. |

Offline | I am very happy you both made to through with minor injuries. A good reminder to us all that the MINI can get away from us, but at least it also takes care of us in an accident. You both have one more thing to be thankful for today. MC/VR/B/PP&SP/CVT/Xenon |

Offline | I know I'll get in trouble for this one, but don't "thank god" that you both walked away...thank MINI. What kind of superior being let's you roll over like that, but steps in to save your butt? Sounds kinda mean to me. If he (she?) exists, he probably wasn't involved in either end of your ordeal. I've been involved in two roll-overs. The first one was in a VW when I was 17 and I crushed my left hand as I grabbed the vent window on the way over (not a good idea). The second time was in a CRX on a race track. Since the second one, I've lived my life as "icing on the cake"...a gift every day. Bet that turkey tastes better than ever! Offline | Rollover & Seatbelt Release VERY glad to hear you are both okay. The part about your wife injuring herself further when releasing her seat belt reminded me of a Mercedes Benz demo at the Essen Motor Show last year. You could get in the car and buckle up. At the front of the car and the rear of the car was a mounting point and this rotated the car upside down like it was on a spit. Anyway, what they were coaching everyone on was the proper way to release your belt without suffering a broken neck or concussion. I vaguely recall it but the first step was to take a deep breath and think for a second before releasing your belt. Second step was reaching with one arm over your head to ease your fall and pushing your legs against the dash to brace yourself in place after you unlock your belt. The idea was to unlock the belt and do sort of a controlled roll out of your seat and onto the roof of the car. Anyway, that's my foggy recollection of it. Every accident is different of course and I am sure this accident could have been far worse. Glad to hear you are both alive and okay. | M5 Extraordinare! | OMG!!! Thank goodness you guys are ok! Shocked me for a minute. I goto school in San Diego and travel on the 52 quite often. Sorry about the MINI hope you get that replaced soon but thats good to hear the MINI did what its suppose to do and protected its passengers. Very Glad to hear everyone is ok! I know the 52 can get quite bumpy at times... well not bumpy but wavy, like a roller coster, (Like where the 5 south meets the 805, right before La Jolla) did that have anything to do with it? Maybe the car just bounced up too high and the wheels lost traction? |
