Well, MINI ownership has not started well for me!! Had Myrtle, my 2003 MINI Cooper, since the weekend, supposed to be sensibly priced motoring, keeping a lot of work miles off my personal car. Yeah right!!
Wife borrowed car today and got about 2 miles before she phoned to say clutch had gone and car was smoking! Sounded very odd as it was fine when I took the car on a long run earlier in the week. Dropped it into the local garage and they reckon the hydraulic release bearing has popped and dumped fluid all over the clutch plate. Makes sense given the symptoms.
What are people generally paying for a replacement clutch/release bearing? No idea how hard it is to get the gearbox out of one of the new MINI's?
The annoying thing is I have a fully equipped garage and would happily have tackled the job over the weekend but I have another project in there at the
mo and its got no wheels on it so I can't get the MINI in the garage. I don't do gearbox out jobs on a gravel drive in the snow!!
