Radio cutting out

Hi - the radio on my daughter's 2001 MINI keeps cutting out. After a while it will come on again for a while ... and then cut out again. It's almost like a component or connector is overheating, and then when it cools it's good again. Is this a recognised problem ... and if so, what's the solution ?

Not necessarily a MINI problem but it does happen on transitor radios from time to time and it can be caused by what they call a dry joint on the printed circuit board that can be cured if so by a resolder of the affected component, so unless its obvious it would need to go to a radio repair specialist.
Sounds like it need to come out to check it properly anyway and whilst doing so make sure all the plugs and cables are secure first before going any further with the strip and removing.
