To buy or not to buy... Looking for advice on buying 2009 Cooper S R57 from a Dealership.
I have read a lot of the below are indicative of common problems of this car/model and now that it has been replaced / repaired, my biggest question is- is it a lemon? or now fixed, will they re-occur?
Specs are:
42,350
Manual
2 owners
Convertible
The service history is a little vague- and haven't yet been given full visibility- which worries me a little. It has been regularly serviced but it seems to have had quite a bit of work done. Don't know much about Minis, but seems to have had quite a lot of issues in the first 40k that makes us quite worried.
Fly wheel and clutch replaced 27,000kms, have also read that "2nd Gen had Valeo supplied clutch assembly. During the early years of the 2nd-Generation, the clutches were incorrectly manufactured: the flywheel mass binding rivets were poorly installed causing excessive movement and play in the flywheel. That movement accelerated wear on the clutch disc itself, leading to a slipping clutch and eventually failure.. Have to find out whether the whole transmission was replaced."
- Front and back brake pads at 30k.
- Timing Chain Replaced.
- Leak in the roof repaired
What parts are covered by manufacturers warranty? ie I read that the fuel pumps were covered up to 100k on a UK forum - is this the same in AU?
It seems 3/5 common issues have been rectified - possibly electrical & fuel pumps to happen??!
I love the mini but I don't want it to cost me a fortune!!!
