Question Mcsc 2010

I have had my car 3 weeks and last night I had a tyre warning message come up, so I limped slowly to the nearest garage to put air in my tyres. I looked at the plate on the door and in the dark, in the rain and no glasses, it looked like it said 2.7bar with 2 people. Good old Google on the mobile phone, this translated into 39psi. Is this correct? That seems mighty high for a car tyre?

All I know is that my tyres are 17" black and round and have air at the top!??! Will it make a difference to the make/model of tyre?

Many thanks for anyone's help.

Jane

My Cooper S Clubman with 17" wheels needs 2.6bar all round for a 'two person load' and in my experience the car's handling and feel is very sensitive to tyre pressure. The 2.6bar figure doesnt change by manufacturer and is the same for runflats / non runflats if I remember correctly.

2.6 x 14.5 = 37.7psi

From experience the tyre pressure warning system on my mini requires a tyre to be much lower in pressure than the others (approx 1.5bar) for it to trigger so you might have a puncture. Suggest you keep a close eye on it.

Do you have runflats?

Thanks Bozzer, yes, I do have run flats and the tyre which I think is the culprit was running at 17psi, but the others were just as bad at 23psi, 28psi and, I think, 32 psi. Don't think the garage could have checked them before selling it to me (but I guess I shouldn't have relied on them and should have checked myself).

I don't know if the computer thingy can tell me which tyre it was reporting on? I tried scrolling through the menu and all I could do was "activate" tyre pressure monitor, but it didn't report anything back to me. All the lights and warnings have disappeared now.

I know my previous 2009 Dooper didnt show which side the deflated tyre was on.

Maybe its changed for post 2011 cars.

Jane,

Dont forget to reset the deflation warning system when you pump up your tyres.

IIRC my mini was delivered with the tyre pressures all over the place too.

Just changed my runflats to non runflats and must admit the car is transformed from a handling, noise and ride perspective.
