R53 15% pulley

Thinking of buying a alta 15% supercagrger pulley. Anyone have one of these on? Or know about them? What sort of bhp does it give you? I've heard they do make a lot of difference just thought I'd see if I could get some advice.

Also I've been told that the 17% gives more power but need an intercooler but on 1320 they are selling 11% pulleys and are saying the smaller the diameter the more power you will get. Just confused on what to buy so it's safe to run on standard intercooler

The % refers to the amount of reduction ... a 17% pulley is small than a 15% which is smaller than a 11%. As you lessen the size of the pulley you get more torque in the lower RPM range.

The JCW Engine Tuning Kit comes with about a 11% reduction pulley.

A 15% reduction pulley is probably the most common choice.

Yeah a 15% is the better option. Believe if you go higher you need other supporting mods

This subject has been covered many many times - its the general go to first mod for the R53 and plenty of info kicking around from those who have done it...

The smaller pulley (for example a 15% pulley is 15% smaller than the stock size) will turn the supercharger faster, creating more boost and hence more torque. Fit an even smaller pulley and you will turn the supercharger even faster, generating even more boost and hence more torque... this wont continue forever though: as you turn it faster it becomes more inefficient and generates more heat. Eventually, this extra heat will start to offset the increase in boost and then the engine/ecu will 'see' the increased temps and start to reign things in to protect the engine - this is when you start to need an improved intercooler as it will cool the intake air further and help reduce the need for the engine management to cut in and help cool things down.

Generally speaking a 15% should be ok on the stock IC depending on your use of the car but it wouldn't hurt to get an uprated IC to make the most of that new boost - an uprated IC was the first mod I did to my old R53: car felt a lot better and my otherwise stock JCW 210 made 222bhp....
