Unhappy MINI in major accident

Got in a pretty major accident Sat. night in Tampa. I was exiting a shopping center near a backed up stop light & snuck through an opening in the traffic to get to the left turn lane. When I entered the left turn lane I was hit by an SUV that had been coming up the turn lane at normal speed (40 MPH?) and then I hit a Minivan that was stopped in front of me. There was minor damage to the rear of the minivan & the front end of the SUV was all smashed in. The MINI's hood, front quarter panel & bumper, driver's side door, rear quarter panel & bumper were all pretty smashed up. The driver side mirror spun around and took a 'bite' out of the window & I guess caused the window to break out (it was about 15 feet in front of the car) My custom 'DemonMF777' front plate came out unscathed!! The driver's side seat & head curtain air bags both went off. Luckily my passenger & I only suffered very minor bumps & bruises and everyone else in the other 2 vehicles was fine also. Then to make matters worse, it sat in the tow yard for almost 2 days & got rained in because they didn't cover it up, so there's now lots of water damage to the interior. Total estimate.. $9,900 and at least 20 days of work. I hope the guys at Ferman MINI can get my poor MINI back to new, it was only 4 months old. Wish I had pics, but it happened at night & I had to return to Ft. Lauderdale the next day. The worst part is the Ford Escort rental I have to drive for the next month or so... my Geo Metro was better!!

Jeremy

Sorry to hear it friend.

Keep in constant touch with your Auto Shop, Insurance, and MINIUSA. Keep the process moving. The MINI, being so new, is subject to much delay in every facet of the restorative process.

My MINI got banged up September 23rd. I still don't have it back, and the damage was just slightly less than yours (current estimate, $9k). Employee training, new software, and parts availability have been the most significant hang-ups.

Good luck, and again, I'm sorry.

State farm sent out another adjuster to take a look & now they're waiting for the teardown (I guess they start dismantling the car to see if they find any other things that need to be fixed) I'm hoping to get it totaled due to all the water damage to the interior, I can just imagine stuff rusting or other parts failing in the near future due to the water.

my MINI was oficially totalled yesterday. The payoff was very fair in my opinion. Now I'm waiting for MINI #2 to arrive around the first of February. I'll try to be more careful with this one!!!

Yeah, I'm happy to have it totalled, if it had been only minor damage I wouldn't mind a repaired car, but the damage was pretty bad and with the water damage as well I was glad to get it totalled. The insurance payoff was very fair, I paid $19,800 (tax, tag, etc) and the payoff was $18,900 which paid off my load, my deductable, and got me a check for $3,300. My new MINI will hopefully arrive by the end of January or first week of February.
