United-Kingdom Cooper clubman v Cooper SD

Hi, I'm thinking about changing my '12 plate cooper for a late SD, ideally an auto. Does anyone have an SD auto? What is the real world mpg? I like my cooper but would like more torque and mpg! The ave urban I get is 39.9 and it doesn't matter whether I drive it hard or sensible it always seems to be at that level.

Would you wait for a new '14 model....... I know there won't be 2.0 Sd!

Sorry, I have a manual SD, so my long-term 48mpg including lots of high speed motorway use and deserted-back-road hooning isn't directly applicable.

But I often think what a suitable motor the SD is for an automatic transmission - lots of torque and a surprising amount of manual gear-changing required.

Hi, thanks for your reply! Much appreciated. 48 mpg at speed and hooning equates to prob a canny sensible mpg for me commuting!

Think I'll have to check out what is available at the dealers and get a test drive booked.

I took one out for a test drive recently, I can see auto suiting the engine but the tax goes up to 125 a year due to the auto box and the paddles I couldn't get used to(both pull to go up gear and push to go down a gear) when i drove.

I've just noticed you getting 39.9 from your Cooper - I got 38.4 from mine so that should calibrate my driving style - you should be able to get better than my mpg from an SD.

I'm also in Tyneside, so if you can't get a SD demo, send me a PM.

Thanks, that's great! Sounds like our driving style is similar!!!....... Changing cars depends on what I can get for my clubman!! I would want to keep my JCW wheels....
