Thought this would be the best place to ask for some advice on purchasing a new Mini.
I have been searching around for a used mini, I have been looking at the diesels as I do around 40-45 miles 4-5 times a week through the city centre and onto motorway driving so it's about half urban half motorway. I have read a lot about the Diesel Particulate Filter and the issues they cause when not used properly. Does the sort of mileage listed above seem adequate for these to function without fault?
I've been looking at 10/60 reg onwards with decent low miles as you would assume that newer models are better. Is this the case with the Minis as well or are slightly older models just as good? Budget is anything up to 10k.
I think your motorway driving is sufficient to keep the DPF in good order - particularly if you occasionally "let it have a deep breath"*.
* These were the exact instructions for good engine life in an early BMW 3-series. As you can see, BMW weren't too hot on translation back in the 1970s. It was printed in the handbook in wonderful bold gothic script. I think the full sentence was something like: "At least once every month, guide the car to the open road and let it have a deep breath". Words I've lived by ever since.
