mini cooper indicators+brake+reverse lights not working :/

hi, my cooper rear break and reverse lights do not seem to come on for some strange reason, apart from the brake light on the bootlid. also my indicators are flashing on dials inside but nothing on the outside. have checked fuses by passengers side and all seem intact, also the abs light is remaining on which is strange unless one of the sensors have managed to go bad. if somebody could shed some light on this problem it will be much appreciated. cheers

Hi ya

Sounds like your body control unit is playing up due to water ingress, the body control unit is located in the drivers footwell you need to disconnect the battery remove and clean the plugs and terminals on the BCU .

Hope this helps

Also check wiring in boot for CD changer, even if you don't have a CD changer the wiring is there pre-wired and if the unused connector shorts out due to damp, etc, strange electrical glitches happen.

Hi cheers for the replies, I've taken out the BC unit and it was completely dry and rust free, also has the plastic cover over the top to stop water drips. There is no CD changer installed so where would I find the connection and earth points if you can point this iit please. Cheers

Hi ya

If you open the boot up there is access panels on each side to get in to change bulbs open them up there should be earth modules there one each side. Look forwards
Just a though you have been though the fuse box to make shore the fuses are ok.

I don't know if you have access to bmw DIS diagnostic machine you could run a check on The BCU to make shore it is ok

Hope this helps

Ps if you have a cd changer fitted if fits in the boot on the right hand side right by the access panel
