Two different generations to consider:

1st Gen 2002 -2006 Hatchback and 2004 - 2008 Convertible models have supercharged engines.

2nd Gen models have turbocharger engines.

The two generations have different characters ... 1st is raw and 2nd is refined. 2nd Gen gets better gas mileage but N14 engine in 2007 - 2011 models had quite a few problems.

Thanks for replying!, ive been told to look at the 2006 cooper s but wasn't sure of the differences in the others. is the problems in the 2 gen major expensive problems or minor problems that are just annoying?
