Water in driver's side footwell

My 2012 S All4 had a drip into the driver's side footwell. A large pile of clean snow accumulated under the hood, behind the wheel well. Winter evidently is not this car's friend. The water ruined the module that controls the lights (all going berserk while I was driving). Module is now shot.

Anyone else had a problem like this? What was the solution/resolution?

had this problem in a jeep. It turns out that the problem was caused by plugged drains by the windshield wipers and sunroof. Leaf particles and other residue caused the drains to overflow into the interior and collected under the floor mats. happened twice. Got rid of the Jeep and bought a 2014 Clubman. Galeburger
