Offline | a serios question advice please!!! after many many problems with our cooper (nov 01 build) we are now talking to our dealer about exchanging for a new car. are the later cars better? or is it a case of jumping from the frying pan into the fire? our dealer has been excellent rgds service ect but we dont want to make another mistake and find ourselves with more problems.perhaps we should upgrade to an s type or perhaps we should opt for a buy back and buy a different car altogether. anyone else found themselves in this situation? advice please THANK YOU. rgds BO. ps HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ![]() get it sideways you know you want to!!!! |

I have now got my second Cooper after owning the last one for 1 Year and being very happy with it.Sure it had faults but nothing to write home about When I got this Cooper I thought wow this is so much better than the last Cooper yet I cant put my finger on why that is but it just feels so good and there are no rattles or squeeks its just fantastic. Get another MINI and if you dont like it blame me. and when you drive it and like it remember (I told you so) ![]() |

| Sponsor,Moderator & Racer | bo nydal - I just posted elsewhere to say that I personally think problems that have occurred (with some notable exceptions) are down to personal tolerance - I don't notice rattles (although I know I have some) because I am too busy enjoying the drive - I suspect that some expect more from a car (and why shouldn't they) than others - My car is a Jan02 build and nothing has stopped me from enjoying it on the racetrack or my wife on the road ![]() |

Offline | I have a little over 3000 miles on my September 2002 build Cooper now and no major issues. I had a loose trim piece and the CVT recall. After the CVT recall I am noticing a little more vibration at a stop, and she ocasionally "cluncks" into first when pulling out. If that doesn't settle out I plan to have it looked at. Overall, the car has been better than most. I also have had great service at the dealers. It sounds like most of the problems out there are part dealer issues. A more customer oriented dealer network would make most of the problems go away and keep the customers happy. I think the greater competition here in So. Cal. works in my favor on that score. Offline | I'm also considering trading mine in due to numerous problems. Are you using Stern's in Evesham? I asked them to talk to Mini a couple of months ago about cutting me a deal and after talking to them today they say that they have not received a reply. I don't think that it occurs to them to pull their fingers out and try to keep their customers happy without constantly moaning at them. |

| Sponsor,Moderator & Racer | Yeh but I only count two of you as trouble makers No point in me getting a new one most of the things that are wrong either get knocked off or blow up on the track - I mean I had a dodgy supsension unit but one season and three shocks later it's fine!! ![]() |

Offline | racer. perhaps im a little picky my car has several rattles. its had to have the front suspension struts replaced.the steering column replaced. the gearbox replaced, the rear light clusters replaced. the handbrake and parcel shelf replaced. the mechanisms that lower the windows on exit replaced. the handle that lowers the rear seats replaced the gearleaver knob replaced (this i admit was the result of me pulling very hard on it trying to get the bloody thing into reverse!! it simply came off in my hand!!)so by now weve had enough!!! should you expect this amount of trouble from a new car or im i bieng a little pickey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ( having reread my post it comes over a bit sarcastic i apologise this was not intensional rgds BO.) I should also add we have had several new cars 4 new vans plus 18 new m/cycles over the past few years no faults whatsoever with the bikes (all japanese)or the cars (mostley fords) one or two minor with my vans . so perhaps you can understand why cofidence is so low!!current vehicles peugeot van toyota mr2 roadster 2 yamaha r1s one road one track all without problems its just that bloody MINI!!!!!!!!!! SORRY I FEEL BETTER NOW!!!!!!!!! RGDS BO get it sideways you know you want to!!!! Last edited by bo nydal : Jan 3rd, 2003 at 01:44 PM. |

Offline | bo nydal, I have not owned a first year car so I have nothing to compare to, other than test drives in an early '02 Cooper and a Cooper S. My car has been trouble free. No squeaks, no rattles, no poor throttle response, no shifter problems. It has just been an absolute joy to own and drive. At this point I have just over 3,500 miles on my baby. Compared to the dealer test MCS my MCS is light years ahead. The throttle response is crisp from idle to top end. The problems with early poor low speed throttle response and difficult starting has been solved with a software patch. It drives like a totally different BEAST. And beast it is, pulling hard from any point in the power band to the red line. With all the power available, red line is not someplace you 'need' to go all that often, maybe you want to go there but you really don't 'need' to. However it sounds so so good up there. But I digress. Buy the new car, it will be worth it. Upgrade to the MCS if you can afford the tickets. ![]() Motor on, Dudes and Dudettes!!! '06 MCS SB/S '02 MCS DS/W (retired) |

| Sponsor,Moderator & Racer | BO - I DO know how you feel I had an MGF that made 29 trips back to the dealer in 6 months never had any of the major problems sorted and I didn't manage to reject it (this was some years ago when rejection seemed a lot harder than now) As I originally said it is personal and nobody should have to put up with faults however minor. I always EXPECT my new cars to be perfect but we live in times where quality control and customer service seem to take second place to profit - I'm pretty sure that had I not been racing my MINI I would have been a lot unhappier - although I don't consider my car 'rejectable' - Where most people endure 1 or 2 of the more common problems you seem to have all of them and IF I were your dealer I would think that you have every right to consider rejection Good Luck whichever route you choose (as I said above I HAVE been there and know the frustration - my wife refused to drive the car because it became so unreliable and that's no fun )R |
