Talking Mini Tips

Hi Guys,

I'm new to the forum but I'm currently looking to buy a Mini for my next car, I'm looking at either a JCW 1.6 or a Cooper S 1.6, Both of these look like great cars to me and I love the appeal of the Mini, are there any buying tips you can provide such as what to look for in an older mini or what I should and shouldn't buy?

Thanks in advance

Max

1st Gen (supercharged) or 2nd Gen (turbocharged)?

Hi Caveman, I'm unsure, it would be around 03-04 model as that's all I can afford at the moment

That would be a supercharged 1st Gen Cooper S (R53). A JCW of that vintage would be a Cooper S model with a dealer installed JCW Engine Tuning Kit (either 200bhp or 210bhp). No need to pay a premium for this as you can fit a supercharger reduction pulley (15% being the most common), shorter belt and colder spark plugs to a Cooper S and achieve almost as much horsepower.
