Offline | I've trashed my Cooper...doh! Yes well it was a combination of bad weather and bad driving but last night at approx 6.30pm whilst turning into my street junction at about 15-20mph on virgin snow (about 1.5" deep) my Cooper took off like a shot and headed straight for a central refuge in the middle of the junction and whacked the curb with an allmighty bang!!!!!! oh f*$k. I've just totalled the front suspension and steering!!!!! The front drivers side wheel has been pushed back towards the bodywork so that you can just get a finger between the wheel and the wheel arch. The steering wheel, when pointing in a straight forward direction, is upside down ie. the MINI |

Offline | Sorry mac flipped out there... just to finish the tale......the MINI logo on the steering wheel was upside down. But I managed to drive to home and called Mini Emergency who picked the car up at 7.30am this morning and I am now awaiting Service Dept and Insurance assesors to do their reports to see how much its going to cost. I can't believe that I have had so much bad luck with this car as this is the 4th major incident in the firs 12 months and not all down to bad driving I may add...mostly bad luck I will post later when I have an engineers view of the damage and let you all know. But for the meantime I AM MINILESS ![]() |

Offline | This thought has been running thru' my head. I could learn to love another Cooper. I recently had a test drive in an S and still prefer the Cooper.......I'll just have to wait and see what happens. |

Offline | Sorry to hear about your trauma Phil. I too suffered a huge loss back in July. My Cooper was totalled after less than 4 weeks of ownership, when someone decided to overtake as I was making a left turn (I'm in Sweden). I was devastated when it happened. I was really surprised, and quite relieved, when the dealer phoned me saying that the car was borderline written-off, followed by the insurance assessor actually writing-it-off. Apparently, over here, if the cost of repair is over 50% of the price of the car new, they write it off. Since then it's been mixed blessings...I haven't had a MINI since July as I got a build slot for an S. My new Cooper S has just arrived in Sweden, and is awaiting delivery. Unfortunately I'm having to wait a week or so for my winter wheels & tyres to arrive (compulsory here from Dec to Mar) before I can collect it. We've also got a load of snow that's still melting away during the day, and freezing at night...And you know how bad that is. I can't wait to be behind the wheel of a MINI again...I've had to suffer an Astra for 6months. Best of luck with your car. I hope the damage isn't too severe and they do a tip-top repair job on her, or they replace her for you. Cheers, Soopacoopa |
