I've never been able to figure out why cars & bikes are more expensive in the UK. At current exchange rates, that'd buy you an S in the States with cruise control, fog lamps, xenons and metallic paint. That's the way I'd spec it, too. Or for a little more, drop the lighting & get leather. Jeff

Taxes? As I've said before, us Americans once threw some tea over this incident, I guess it helped a bit. People here complain about 5-8% sales tax, that's peanuts compared to European taxes. Anyway, I agree with DK, the best part is doing it yourself, that and the MINI UK site confuses me with all the different names, so I'm no help Magic 8-ball was correct. All be in awe of Magic 8 ball.

Sorry to take this thread off-topic so early, but one difference between UK sales tax (VAT -- value added tax) and American sales taxes are that the UK tax is very well hidden in the price. You rarely get to see the amount before tax, whereas in America items are priced without the tax.

Re: £13500...Spec me the best cooper!! GO ON THEN..get going! Firstly MINI Cooper = £11600.00 Non cost PepperWhite/Blackroof ![]() Chilli Pack = £10020 CD Prep non cost option Tinted Windows = £100 Air Con = £600 TLC = £100 asc+t = £100 Grand Total = £13520 Chill pack contains.... 16" 5 star alloys,sports seats,part leather,map reading lights,fog lights,chrome exterior,passenger seat height adjustment,roof spoiler,storage compartment package. Not a bad specced MINI cooper if I say so myself.

Back to topic... Here's a few pointers from my experience speccing up a Cooper (ordered today). 1) MINIs with any kind of pack (Pepper, Chili) are probably going to be worth more at resale than one with a set of custom options. Chili gives you 16" wheels, so may be better for you. I went for Pepper, because I like the standard seats and 15" wheels (I have a One currently, so know what they are like). 2) Aircon is also essential for good resale. One year old MINI Ones with Aircon are worth about £600 - £1000 more than those without on trade in. 3) Metallic paint is also desirable, but not essential; it seems to be more durable than the solid colours, however, because there is the extra clear coat layer. 4) ASC+T fills in the missing slot on the toggle switch bank , but may also save your life.5) As a gadget freak, you might want to invest £100 on the onboard computer. 6) Don't forget (like I just did) tlc! If you haven't already, try going to mini.co.uk and spec up your own MINI (Take me to your dealer -> Made-to-Measure).

Re: Re: £13500...Spec me the best cooper!! GO ON THEN..get going! As you say, not bad! But ditch the asc+t & the tints, and you'd be close to affording the 17" rims, far tastier than the standard 5-spoke 16's. Traction control just aint needed on a standard Cooper - even in the wet, you need to be well clumsy to spin a wheel. It just doesn't have the grunt! I'd be temptedto find another £500, and add trip computer & upgrade the air-con for climate control! Mini Cooper. (Arrived 27/09/02 at 15:00) Red, White Roof. Chilli Pack. 17" S-Spokes. Climate Control. Heated Mirrors/Washer Jets. Trip Computer

Very nice. I was going to suggest black with a white roof in your last thread. Not too keen on big wheels personally, but that's just me. Personally, I would drop the 17s and put some money towards air-conditioning. That's the one gaping hole in your spec, in my opinion. Out of interest, why are you getting a new Cooper? Is your current one a lemon? It certainly seems fast enough, going by your previous thread. Last edited by oldnell; Jan 12th, 2003 at 03:32 PM.

hi,why not go for a mini one with all the gadgets and have it chipped for 470 quid ,that way you have slightly mor power than the cooper and still have all the toys,go for sport leather ,climate control and aerokit, radio boost option and 16 ich 5 spokes, loose the whit and tint the windows 30% and hey presto,a "mini" stealth weapon. have fun,by the way im sure you are aware the one and the cooper engines are identical, there is only a software differece limiting the throttle opening to,i think,64% let me know how you get on. mini-me
