Dashboard

We have a Mini cooper s 1st gen facelift, its the wife's car and she has a problem with the finish on the dashboard just below the face vent, it seems like there is a protective film on the dash, I don't think its lacquer, but maybe I'm wrong, anyways she was in Tesco a couple of weeks ago and got one of those smelly cardboard air freshener type things, maybe it was free as it got 20p a litre off fuel & club card wrote on it.
The wife hung it from the face vent so the cardboard was in contact with the dash, now the film on the dash has peeled off where the smelly thing is, it looks a right mess, so it looks like chemical that's on the card has reacted with the film on the dash.

Do you guys think I have a good cause to complain to Tesco or BMW ?
I will try to upload a pic or two when I get chance.

Not sure if you have a good cause to complain until you check the packet the air freshener came in as most of them type have a warning to tell you not to have it touching any seats or trim, if it doesn't have a warning try contacting Tesco

You could try it with Tesco, doubt they will give you a new MINI but you might get some extra points on your clubcard and be in the wifes good books?

Pics of damage.
Just been quoted Ł99 from BMW for panel plus fitting.

I can't see any basis for claiming compensation from BMW. If there isn't a warning or direction of use on the packet of the air freshener then you can certainly try Tesco.

Yeah, I think its a long shot to try and put any blame on BMW, but I think Tesco have got something to answer for.
The trouble & strife recons there was nothing printed on the packet, which has been binned , so I will have to see if we can get another unopened one from Tesco.

Do you think the damage could be put right by one of those smart repairer chaps?
