Yes it should! I love the Cooper S engine - it really suits the personality of the car.

The trusty A-series engines in the classic Mini (especially the 1275 versions), while not super powerful, were really nice and torquey, providing great driving pleasure rewarding the driver with instant throttle response. It is commendable of BMW (and Rover, and Chrysler) that this important and defining driving characteristic of the classic Mini was seen as a worthy trait that the new MINI should possess. Mission accomplished.

+ 2002 MINI Cooper S - Dark Silver / White roof, Sport, Premium, Lapis blue leather
+ 1965 Mini Traveller - Tartan Red / White roof, 1275, Cooper S discs, fully restored/renewed

I second that. Could we please have a FAQ with a listing off all the awards the MINI has received? With links, date, and details if possible. Maybe it could be in the format of one award per post on the thread. I'd be happy to contribute all the ones I know of in Canada.

Chilli Red/White Cooper S, Sport Pack & Sunroof. Delivered June 12th, 2002!
Now with MCS Winter Tire Package.

Good idea.

I'll PM MINIAC (king of the FAQ) and we can club together on this.

Yea its a solid little beast! Maybe it will be used over and over in future models for years to come, just like the first mini's used the Sprite engine, back in the day. That was a solid little engine for its day.
Nothing like setting a standard all over again!

peugot/citroen

Well, I agree hardily, a sweet little motor.
So what or where, was it I read that peugot/citroen
will be making a "suitable" replacement unit?

Just like the Sprite used the Austin A40's engine. And just like the A40 used the Morris Minor's engine. And just like the Minor used the Austin A30's engine. And that was just the A-Series engine's first decade (the 1950's). That great little engine was in continuous production until classic Minis ceased production in late in 2000!

As nice as the Tritec engine is, there's no way it will last the nearly 50 years of the A-series. Anyway, supposedly we'll all be driving fuel cell cars in 10-20 years.

yea, very unknown by most Americans. My father had a Bug eyed Sprite. 1970. He raced it till the floor fell out. it was fun watching the road though the floor!
Thank god rust protection has come a long way!
