problems with my steering

Unsure if we have a problem with the steering on our mini one, it is stiff-not heavy. You cannot rotate the wheel with fingers or one hand.So confused if this is normal?Just been for mot and the mechanic did say they have problems with power steering pumps, and the steering was a bit stiff but not heavy so he was confused. On the pipework there was a damp spot which he says could be loosing pressure but we have had the car for 12 months and the fluid is topped up, dosnt deem to have lost any.It not like driving a tractor but not very fluid?

Ok so I am having the same issue just different format. One day my power steering works, the next it does not (Even though the steering is really stiff and heavy I kind of like it, reminds me Im a man). Sometimes when coming off the motorway the steering will go stiff until I restart the car. I have tried using electrical parts cleaner and a air shop hose to clean and blow out the connectors. The issue is less frequent, but it still happens which means I still have an issue. I have seen some people taking the power steering out completely? An suggestions from our brothas and sistas @mini2?
