United-Kingdom Over revving

I've got a 2011 Mini Cooper and I went out in it earlier and it was over revving whenever I started to brake and when it was in neutral. It went back to normal when driving along. It was revving to about 3.5 in neutral. Can anyone tell me what it might be?

Sounds like you might have a split pipe somewhere on the air intake side or split/detached vacuum pipe. Or it could be something silly like your floor mat caught under the front edge of the accelerator pedal
