Alarm fitting after mini has been built but not delivered

Hi, I have ordered a Mini Cooper with chili pack which is coming the end of the month. I wish I ordered the alarm but my dealer now tells me its to late to order as the car has been built. Even though he did not inform before hand the last date that I could change my options. I also wanted ASC
My questions are:-
Is the alarm factory fitted or dealer fitted?
Can you order the alarm from the dealer?
Is the alarm worth having?
IS there a third party alarm which anyone can recommend?

Cheers

My understanding is -

In the UK - the alarm is factory fitted.

Yes, you can order from the dealer (costs about twice as much as it would have done, though!)

The alarm is excellent - It is well integrated with the car - the light on the wiper stalk is cool! No other keys or controllers are required - it is armed by locking the car - even with the remote.

Hope this helps!

PS - I wish I had ordered ASC too - just for the switch!

hi,
i thought the alarm was fitted as standard, so i was a bit annoyed to find out i am going to have to buy one.
what type of alarm is it? motion sensitive? as long as it doesn't tell thiefs to "back away from the vehicle" i don't really mind

Sounds like a crock

On this side of the world, the alarm is a dealer installed option. Just ordered it to be installed though I couldn't get a solid price since they say they haven't installed one yet. Supposed to be around $400-500 usd.
Seems odd they would tell you that.
I've heard many success stories of aftermarket alarm systems being installed; just not as integrated as the MINI system.

The alarm cost me £200. It includes a tilt sensor, motion sensor and sensors on doors, boot lid and bonnet. It makes a siren type sound!

The alarm can be added by any MINI/BMW garage.

Not sure about other makes, I would go for the MINI one even if it is more expensive.

If it is worth having it is up to you - I got it hoping the flashing red light would put off potential thieves from smashing the window and try and steal something from inside. I don't think it's easy to steal the car without the key - the imobiliser is standard.

Ah, ASC cannot be added aftermarket...
