was there a recall...?

Hello, I have a 2002 mini cooper 5speed man.,(owned for a bout a year now) and I have hit a snag...i got my oil changed recently...well most of it. Turns out my oil filter cap is stuck on to the housing, I don't know how long its been since the filter has been changed. The place I took it to says that my cap is ether 1. Over tight or the more likely option ( seeing as the cap is aluminum) the cap has welded itself on and won't budge with out possibly breaking/cracking something. And its been suggested that the entire housing just be replaced. They say that Mini knew bout the problem when they made that year. My ? Is was there a possible recall? My guess is probably not but never hurts to ask.

Its been over tightened by whoever changed the filter last, it supposed to be done up to a specific torque so you can undo it again, and they used a gorilla with monkey wrench or something to do it up last time.

+1

You may be able to remove the housing and filter from the car it's only a few bolts very quick todo and try undoing it on the bench, but if it's been over tightened or has corroded on you will need to replace it, you can pick up a second hand one pretty cheap.
