Questions RE: Secondhand Mini purchase
Firstly, thank you for taking the time to read this.
Basically Iím looking at buying a petrol engine Mini, probably a 2007+ model Clubman (maybe cooper S probably cooper) with a maximum of 70k miles.
Unfortunately I have had (in the past year) horrendous luck with my cars. My (new to me) RAV4 failed itís MOT on a variety of undiagnosed and unnoticed issues (it ran absolutely fine..) that were quoted to be more expensive to fix than the value of the car and resulted in me losing 2.5k and now the gearbox in my partners Audi has packed up.
All of this spurned me to read up on my potential new investment and I quickly discovered a widely reported issue with the timing chains in some models. Upon reading some of the horror stories on this and other forums, my allusions to BMW reliability were quickly called into question and so now I ask you: Is there an outstanding issue with the cam chain in some miniís? If so, are these particular to a specific engine? Someone posted about some of the timing chains being manufacturered by 2 different companies and that one was slightly longer.. anyone care to comment?
I appreciate that searching for reliability issues on the internet is a bit like trying to self diagnose using WebMD, however itís all Iíve got.
I also understand that, owing to their renowned handling and youthful appeal, that Miniís are (arguably) more prone to having been driven aggressively than, for example, a Volvo. I certainly hope that this is a possible explanation to the previously noted cam chain issue.
Any advice greatly appreciated,
