Hi Spec Cooper or Low Spec S?

Hi,

Which would you choose and why?

MINI Cooper with Chilli (half leather, fogs)
Auto Air Con
17" S-Spokes
CD Boost
Alarm
ASC+T
TLC

£14920

MINI Cooper S (includes ASC+T + Alarm)
Manual Air Con
16" V-Spokes
CD Boost
Cloth Seats
Fog lights
TLC

£15765

I've currently got the Cooper and may have the chance to upgrade to an S. Is it worth it with the sort of low spec?

Kind regards

Hyper Blue/Blue MCSC with Chilli

low spec s

because:
- the cloth seats are excellent - they look at least as good as the leather ones

- auto air con is not all it's cracked up to be from what i've heard

- the 16" wheels look better than the 17" anyway

- you can get a decent stereo fitted later on when you have a bit more money

- you can get electric blue with white bits

- it is the best drive there is

i had the same dilemma before buying my s but it was the best decision i've ever made. definitely worth upgrading... better check out the insurance first though.

Depends what you want from the car ???

If you want the best drive then get the S. If you love your gadgets and comforts and find your current Cooper fast enough then get the Cooper and save a few quid. Also consider the added ownership costs with the S of increased fuel and insurance costs.

Personally I don't think I would spend so much on options for the Cooper (over £3k) and would probably pick the S from your two scenarios.

Cooper S. Definitely go with the MCS.

I would regret giving up that much torque and hp just to get some leather and 17" rims.

Besides, the MCS you've listed is hardly a stripper. It'd be sufficient for my needs, certainly.

I currently have afully laoded Cooper and have just ordered a fully loaded MCS (both excluding sun roof & sat nav).

If you want an MCS for that little bit more money then I'd seriously consider gettin g full leather. I'd never go back to cloth. Don't be too bothered about the wheels and stereo though !!

Seats are the main thing really.

Cheers,

Leather seats are of course a matter of personal preference. I not too keen on them (full leather anyway) and certainly don't think they're worth the large extra outlay.

Even if you like them it's something you can live without especially if you're on a budget.

the biggest consideration should be can you afford the higher insurance & fuel consumption of the 'S' over the Cooper?

Go for the Cooper and put the difference towards a cherished number which you can transfer to your new high spec MCS next time around

Remember the options will depriciate at a greater rate than the base car....my dealer suggested not adding options amounting to more than 20% of the base car.

I was in this exact dilemma.....went for the "S" as it will hold it's value better over the long term....plus you gain the benefits of having a higher performance car....

i had this dilema, but you have to ask at what price you want to stop. I would have loved the 's' but could not realistically afford to run it for another few years, therefore opted for a higher speced cooper with some of the s feature i like, like the dash board.

End of the day its up to you, but insuance and fuel will be more expensive.

You can always add the luxury bits later should you wish, Get the S, it is the foundation on which you could build up all the options later. After all, you dont but a house for the curtains. As stated before the running cost will be higher, so figure the insurance/gas premiums before you make up you mind.

How much more petrol/gas does the S consume compared to the Cooper?

I am a Motoring Advisor and I bought an S. I love it, but there is honestly nothing I do in my S that could not be done in a cooper. I'm a big fan of the Cooper, I think that had the S never been released people would still be saying that the cooper is one heck of a car. I do quite a bit of driving (I just passed 10K in less than 5 months) so for fuel consumption purposes I'd rather have the Cooper. JMHO!
Either way, you're bound to have tons of fun...

Cooper not Cooper S.

Igor thinks that Cooper is a LOT cheaper in price, insurance and petrol.

Igor also thinks that people in Cooper S's think they are too good to wave or flash at other minis

Igor thinks for the price of S you can get Cooper + More Accessories + body kit and other nice things

Igor thinks you should NOT join the dark side and instead get Cooper

I intend to flash at all MINI drivers when I get my MCS.

No need for any rude comments here.

I think Igor needs to learn how to speak proper english

To be honest, I would love to have an 'S' but I know that I would be tempted to use the performance and I would end up getting points and a ban! The Cooper gets to 70mph in no time at all and is entertaining enough for me to enjoy it most of the time without feeling short changed on performance. As the Cooper needs to be 'worked' to give its best, you can have alot of fun at legal speeds.

My Cooper is my everyday transport which going to work means a lot of slow town driving for which there would be no benefit to an MCS. I find my well specced Cooper fast enough and enough fun for my needs.

The extra insurance and fuel cossts can be a decisive factor unless money is no object.

How can money be an object if we're all going to die from chemical poisoning and nuclear attacks ???? Morbid I know, but tell that to the leaders of the nations...

If money was no object I'll be driving a Ferrari now.

My insurance premium will be an extra £240 a year for the S.
