Getting an cert. of compliance for a US mini?
Sometime next year, I'll be heading to either Spain or Portugal for a protracted period (at least 5 years.) I love my 2012 mini cooper S and am trying to find out whether it is possible/ worthwhile to have it bring it into the EU as my personal vehicle. I know that I may encounter import duties, though at least for Portugal I should be able to bring it in duty free as a personal possession. And obviously they'll be shipping costs. But I gather that such cars are extremely expensive in Europe and that it may actually turn out to be cheaper over the long run to have mine shipped. The real question is how much would I need to get changed on the car to get the required EU certificate of compliance (COC) and how costly is that likely to be? Does anyone know of a service that could help me A) determine if it is worthwhile and B) take care of the shipping, etc.?
