A couple of questions

Hello

Can someone confirm if the Cooper comes with the anthracite interior as standard or do I have to specify it.

The other question is what does everyone think of the tinted windows. Do they look a bit tacky and are they worth the money.

I would have asked my dealer these questions if they would answer the phone or return my calls.

Thanks

James

Hi James,

I was about to post a thread about the tints. I've ordered them for mine as I thought they were a bit of a bargain and would look cool with the silver/black roof.

However, I've not seen any MINI's with this option and was starting to wonder whether it was a no no with the MINI Clan.

The tints are cheap, not sure if they would look cool or a bit Max Powery.

Personally, I think the tints look the dogs doofers... I had mine done by a specialist company, minimum tint all round (35%)

Poor photo I;m afraid, looks better when the suns on it. If the sun ever comes out again, I will update the photo...

Looks better on some colour cars than others too...

Thumbs up Ah, thanks Tony.

That doesn't look Max Powery at all.
(Puts MINI dealers phone number away again)

I must admit a good quality tint looks good. Is the factory tint all the side windows or is the door glass plain. I think I remember seeing a car at my dealer that just had the back windows and boot tinted. Also can the £100 tints from the factory look as good as a custom job.

Yo, Zed,
I work just up the road from where you live, so if you ever want to see it in the 'flesh' before deciding, let me know!!

The Factory £100 tinting only tints the three back windows. It doesn't tint the door windows, making the MINI look like a van.

I was going to opt for it 'cause it's cheap, but in the end decided against it. I will choose a custom job that does all the windows and at a slightly darker % too.

I think legal is 20% or 30% or something.

Cheers,
EB MINI

30% is the legal limit for front windows, which has been ratified by parliment (IN THE UK!!). Mine are 35%, but plod would have to carry out a sceintific test with some sort of light measuring device to prove this. Incedentally, my previous cooper has 50% on the back and 35% on the sides, but the darker rear window made the others look darker than 35%, so I was a little worried about the plod. However, I owned the car for 16 months and never had any problems. If you had a 5 series with blacked out windows, you will get hasseled by plod because you will look like a drug dealer anyway!!!!

I've ordered the £100 tint option for the rear glass and intend to do the front ones after delivery.

You've got me worried now it may look naff.... Surely not the only other naff option on the list is the wood effect interior.

Do you think an aftermarket job will be able to match the tints and look ok??

As far as I know, the anthracite is only available on the S. And we have our windows tinted at a shop here. We don't order factory tint. Not to say we wouldn't, but so far, we haven't.

personally i think the tinted windows only go well with certain colors. ex...a black/black MINI would look bad@ss with tinted windows (IMO), however...my IB/white it would look...odd...

also you have to consider this side of it. if you tint the windows, you might have to wave twice as hard for other MINI drivers to see you :-)

Damnation !

Thought I had my spec all sorted

Tony, thanks for the offer, will PM you.

Like EBMINI I figured it would look a bit van like without the front door windows being tinted, but like Blackbird51 had intended getting them done at a later date. If they end up being different shades it wouldn't look so good tho.

So are the factory tints 50%?

Reckon I'm running out of time to change spec.

Re: the interior, don't leave anything to chance with your choice of options. I know the dealers can be elusive at times, but keep at 'em and get everything in black and white. Saves a lot of aggro later.

Re: James

My advise on tinting the windows...

Don't go for the 'factory' option, get your mini firstthen go to a reputable after amrket company. Pentagon Autotint are the leaders in this country, and many dealers use them. But the are very expensive. I used an outfit called 'South Coast Tints', in Southampton. Their work is good, and they don't charge the earth. I had mine done (all windows) for about £170. They guarantee their product for life, so if you still own the car in 5 years time and it starts to peel off, they replace it free of charge. I have had 3 cars done there so far, and my wife is thinking of taking her MCS there as well....

I don't know if you can remove the factory tint, I suspect not.

Yep Anthracite is standard interior.
In my eyes the best durable interior as well.

er......nope....alloy patina is....UNLESS you specify other wise!

I double checked this with my dealer....plus on the subject of the factory tints.....IMO get it done after you receive the car......as the tinting is manufactured into the glass, so you cannot remove it later, as you can an aftermarket tint.

As you can see, I was initially taken by it, but changed my mind, and have added something more useable instead!

May end up adding tints later!

Hi all the factory tints are rear windows tints cant be removed and they are hella dark so if you tint the fronts to you are going to be stopped by the boys in blue i got mine tinted and the fronts a gradients. Also adds a bit for security as it is harder to see whats in it and breaking the window is harder anything that makes your car cooler and a little bit more secure has to be worth it mines were done by tint haus and look sweet or so i think on my CB/W cooper-s heres a pic its a bit dark will take a better one soon.

Two dealers which i had been to specified that anthracite was the standard interior.

However this problem with the dealerships could be the cause of people picking their new mc up with the wrong interior!!
