Depends on the mileage and condition of each.

Turbo or supercharger, thats the question you need to answer and then you'll know.

?

They're both R53's, supercharged.

I'd go for the facelift, for all the improvements they made.

There weren't that many changes made for the facelift of the R53. The 2006 will have a transmission which is geared for slightly better acceleration. The 2004, since it has the JCW Tuning Kit, will have the improved 5th Gen Eaton supercharger like the 2006. The 2006 will have to be fitted with a 15% reduction pulley, smaller drive belt and colder plugs to attain similar horsepower to the 2004.

Isn't the R56 the facelift mini?

The R56 is a 2nd Gen MINI. The 1st Gen "facelift" occurred with July 2004 production. The "facelift" for the 2nd Gen MINI was called the "LCI" (Life Cycle Impluse).
