My 2011 Clubman D rear RHS window crazed/shattered in the heat last week- it was sat in direct sunlight for 3 days on our private drive.Went to reverse out, noticed window had crazed, got out to inspect, closed door and window fell into a thousand bits.Warranty want a picture of intact window crazed, obviously not possible, anybody else experienced the same?
The glass is toughened type, a small chip or even a slight scratch can cause stress in the surface of the glass and sometimes it can cause it to break for no apparent reason, also its not unknown for a rogue spot weld flare to be present in the body where the glass fits, this can put pressure on the glass and over a period of time cause the glass to break.
If the reason was because there is a manufacturing defect in the body aperture like that that caused the breakage then it would probably be covered under warranty, but if it was caused by another reason such as a scratch/chip then I doubt you have no claim and will have to pay for a new one, or go through your insurance?
