| MINI2 Newbie | My Mini misses home!...(Shipping car back to UK) Hi Everyone! As my title implies, I am shipping my car back to the UK (from the US) as I am being transferred to London!!! Has anyone done something similar? Does anyone know what I am supposed to do with customs etc? Are there any requirements/standards (such as pollution) that my car needs to meet for it to be allowed on the streets of England. My Mini is a US-spec Cooper S, with premium, sports and cold weather package. Your input would be very much appreciated. Thank you Yannis |

Offline | I don't think that there would be any problems with emisions but you will have to get the rear fog lights fitted and of course the steering wheel will be on the wrong side . something else to look in to would be what happens with the servicing and tlc (if you have it) wether or not a british dealer will service an import. Can't think of any thing else. Offline | Make sure you complete the proper paperwork to show the car has already been imported to the U.S. once and duty paid (can't remember the form now, but it will be on the U.S. Customs website) so if/when you return to the U.S. with the MINI you do not need to pay customs duty again. You can and should do the same for any electronics, cameras and computer stuff you are taking. You can list everything on one form. MC/VR/B/PP&SP/CVT/Xenon |

Offline | I imported a older classic Mini from the UK, so I know the roll on/roll off shipping itself is well under $1000, (under £615). If you are a temporary visitor to the US, it shouldn't be too difficult to bring the car in as an expatriate Brit for temporary work or while on holiday. But things start to get complicated if you intend for the car to stay in the US for more than a year or so. The RHD configuration is no problem, but the car would have to be brought up to US specs (lighting, emission certifications, etc.). I would think MINIUSA could help give you a list of what needs to be done. + 2002 MINI Cooper S - Dark Silver / White roof, Sport, Premium, Lapis blue leather + 1965 Mini Traveller - Tartan Red / White roof, 1275, Cooper S discs, fully restored/renewed |
