Help with number plate

Hi, Just got my great cooper on Saturday.
WHen I ordered my Cooper I sorted out a private plate from the DVLA, which I gave the paper work to my dealer.

WHen I received the car the private plate was on the car and on the registration document.

My question is should I have also received a normal 52 plate, as now what happens when I sell my car?

I thought I would still get a 52 plate as it was included in the on the road price

As far as I can remember... if you have a private plate and you give it to a dealer for putting on a new car, the dealer will sort everything out with the DVLA to put that plate on the new Car and all the DVLA will do is change or issue that number to that car !!

a 52 reg will not be issued by the dealer as you say, this will only be done if you sell the car without its personalised number; If this would ever happens the dealer or person who bought the car would be issued a number plate relevant to the age of the vehicle and you would put your "personalised" number on a retention certificate.

wwm, don't worry ... you've not been had!!

at any given point in time, your car can only have one registration plate. so at the mo, your car is registered under your private plate. when you decide to sell, you have 2 options:

1. Sell the car with the plate ... easy
2. Sell the car and transfer the plate onto your next car or transfer it onto a certficate for future use. the buyer of the Cooper, will be assigned a new registration by the DVLA. this will be a 52 registration.

Complete the number transfer BEFORE you let the car go.
